Coffee and Its Health Benefits

All over the world people are drinking coffee. Some people may think that coffee is bad for your health, while some are aware of the various health benefits it offers. Research studies may show conflicting results as to whether coffee is good or bad for the health but here are some of the proven health benefits of drinking coffee:

Disease prevention

Coffee is full of antioxidants, thereby reducing risks of certain diseases such as type-2 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, certain forms of cancers, and cardiovascular conditions like chronic hypertension.

Antioxidants are substances that protect the cells from free radicals which are the body’s own by-products produced after certain body functions. Free radicals can cause cellular damage, which could lead to serious illnesses like heart diseases and cancers.

Performance Boost

Coffee, which appears to be the most prominent caffeine source for most people, can boost athletic performance. The caffeine we get from coffee is the one responsible for the energy increase we experience after we drink a cup of coffee.

Caffeine stimulates the brain and the nervous system to do things different. A good example would be ignoring feelings of weariness or enhancing extra muscle units during, say, an intense game. It is said that caffeine could even make muscles contract stronger. Caffeine is said to increase strength and endurance in athletes.

There are still a lot of benefits left to be discussed. However, it is important to keep in mind that we only take full advantage of coffee’s positive effects if we keep it at a safe amount. Regulating your coffee intake will determine whether you reap the benefits or the ill effects of the caffeine we get from coffee.
