Brunton’s Flip-N-Drip Coffee Maker

I know camping season’s almost done, but I just stumbled upon this nifty gadget that helps campers enjoy brewed coffee in the great outdoors. Hey, it’s never too late to share something this useful, right?

So, Brunton’s Flip-N-Drip Coffee Maker, is a great device to lug around for when you want to commune with mother nature. It’s lightweight and doesn’t take up much space. It’ll fit perfectly into those big backpacks that campers usually lug around.

Using the Flip-N-Drip isn’t complicated. It’s made up of 3 pieces: the base, the brew chamber, and the insulated mug. It’s made of durable aluminum, so you’re sure to enjoy it for a long time.

Using it appears to be simple enough too. I got myself one because I’m an outdoors kind of person myself. I tried it out and found the procedure really REALLY easy. You put water on the base piece and wait for it to boil. While you wait, fill the brew chamber with your favorite ground coffee and attach it to the top of the mug. Once the water boils, attach the brew chamber and mug to the top of the base, and flip.

It’s not as fast as your regular coffee makers, though. It’ll take 10 to 12 minutes before the percolation process is done.

The great things I see about the Flin-N-Drip is that the base can actually double as a boiling pot for cooking freeze-dried foods when camping. Also, they made the mug double-walled, to keep the coffee warm for a longer time. They even put rubber insulation on the mug to avoid burning your hand when the aluminum heats up from the hot coffee. Also, the tumbler can accommodate 16 ounces of coffee. That’s more than enough for me.

I know I’ll be using it a lot when I go on my next camping trip. I’d like to know what you think of this new product, though. Do share your thoughts over at the comments section and let’s talk about it over a cup of coffee.

I would like to buy this item for a friend that hates camping but when she does she wants her morning coffee. Can you boil the base piece on a grill over a open flame? It looks like it would be durable enough?
  • I wouldn't do it in open flame or directly expose it there. I too am not comfortable with that one.
